The newest collection inside the Craft House Gallery invites you to look a little closer—not only at the artwork, but perhaps at yourself.
We’re excited to welcome Nightowl Doodles, the creative world of artist and illustrator Linsey to Craft House Salon in Atlantic Highlands.
Linsey creates surrealistic portraits of fantasy-inspired women using expressive details, dreamlike imagery and vivid color. Her work balances recognizable human features with elements pulled from imagination, transforming each subject into a character with a distinct story, energy and inner world.
Meet the Artist Behind Night Owl Doodles
Nightowl Doodles began with Linsey’s desire to bring the people and places inside her imagination to life—and to encourage others to explore their own creativity along the way.
Linsey primarily works with traditional materials, especially watercolor, colored pencils and alcohol-based markers. She describes her style as a blend of realism and imagination, with portraits inspired by everything from nature and everyday life to emotion, space, disasters, music and popular culture.
While art had been part of Linsey’s life since middle school, it was not initially presented to her as a realistic career path. She continued creating while pursuing a degree and career in nursing, eventually realizing that the creative work she kept returning to was not simply a hobby—it was the path she wanted to follow.
Choosing to pursue art meant stepping away from the direction that had been expected of her and beginning to build something that felt more authentically her own. Today, Nightowl Doodles allows Linsey to share her imagination, grow her creative business and encourage other artists to take their own ideas seriously.
That part of her story feels especially fitting for the Craft House Gallery. Our gallery has always been intended as more than decoration. It is a space where local and emerging artists can share their perspective, take up space and allow their work to become part of someone else’s experience.
Art Inspired by the 16 Personality Types
The collection displayed at Craft House is inspired by the 16 personality types commonly associated with the Myers-Briggs personality framework.
The framework looks at four sets of preferences:
Introversion or Extraversion
Sensing or Intuition
Thinking or Feeling
Judging or Perceiving
Together, those preferences create 16 possible four-letter personality types. Rather than ranking people or deciding that one personality is better than another, the system offers a way to consider how people may gather information, make decisions, relate to others and move through the world. The official Myers-Briggs assessment describes the framework as a tool for greater self-awareness and understanding—not something intended to determine a person’s value, abilities or potential.
Linsey turns these abstract personality concepts into individual visual characters.
Her complete MBTI Personality Types collection includes 16 mixed-media watercolor works with titles such as The Virtuoso, The Entertainer, The Entrepreneur, The Adventurer, The Defender, The Campaigner, The Protagonist, The Mediator and The Advocate.
Each portrait interprets a different personality through its subject, composition, symbolism and use of color. Traits that might normally appear as letters on a personality profile become facial expressions, environments, textures and fantasy elements.
The result is not a literal explanation of each type. It is an emotional and visual interpretation—one that gives the viewer room to decide what the character represents and which parts of the story feel familiar.
Finding Yourself in the Work
Every Nightowl Doodles painting begins with a story.
Sometimes that story is carried through the subject. Sometimes it appears through color, mood or symbolism. And sometimes the meaning develops only after the viewer brings their own experiences to the piece.
Linsey hopes the people drawn to her artwork can feel recognized within it. A character might reflect a quality you are proud of, a part of yourself you are still learning to understand or a strength you have not always known how to name.
That is what makes this collection particularly interesting to experience in person. You may immediately search for the portrait associated with your personality type—or find yourself unexpectedly drawn to an entirely different one.
Personality systems cannot capture every contradiction, experience or evolving part of a human being. They can, however, offer an interesting starting point for reflection. Art can do the same. Neither has to provide a final answer to help us notice something new.
