EXTENSION SUMMER CARE

Summer is almost here! It's time to enjoy sunny days, beach trips, and fun outdoor activities. But, with the warm weather comes the need for extra care for your hair extensions. Whether you have clip-ins, tape-ins, or sew-ins, your extensions require proper maintenance to keep them looking their best throughout the summer season. Here are some tips on how to care for your hair extensions during the summer months.

Protect your hair extensions from the sun: Just like your natural hair, hair extensions can also suffer damage from UV rays. You can prevent this by wearing a hat or scarf outside or using a hair product with SPF protection. Avoid exposing your hair extensions to direct sunlight for extended periods. Be cautious when choosing hair products with SPF, as some ingredients, like Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) and Octocrylene, can cause damage to hair extensions and lead to discoloration or breakage.

A few brands that are the same to use near your hair extensions include clean brands like Bare Republic, Alba Botanical, Cera Ve, Sun Bum, and Simple Truth Sunscreen- most of which Target carries.

Our go-to favorite Summer haircare is the SU line from Davines. The SU milk is a wonderful leave-in treatment that protects color-treated and natural hair from sun damage. BONUS, it is completely extension safe!

Please do not use sunscreen for your body in your extensions- even if they are safe to use near your extensions; they are not safe for your extensions.

Keep your hair extensions clean: Sweat, saltwater, and chlorine can all cause buildup and damage to your hair extensions. To avoid this, wash your hair extensions regularly with a gentle shampoo and conditioner. Use a sulfate-free shampoo to avoid stripping your hair extensions of their natural oils. Rinse your hair thoroughly after swimming to remove any salt or chlorine.

Use a deep conditioning treatment: The summer months can leave your hair extensions dry and brittle. Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week to keep them hydrated and healthy. This will help to restore moisture and prevent breakage. A perfect one that can be used on the go is the Davines Circle Chronicles -The Restless Circle. It is an invisible, anti-breakage hair mask designed for busy schedules. With its invisible texture, The Restless Circle mask can be applied anywhere and anytime, instantly adding body to stressed hair while preventing breakage. Chia seed extract (rich in amino acids and antioxidants) works to help increase the density and elasticity of your hair.

Be gentle with your hair extensions: When brushing or styling them, be gentle to avoid damaging them. Use a wide-tooth comb or a brush designed for hair extensions to detangle your hair. Avoid pulling or tugging on your hair extensions, which can cause them to become loose or fall out.

Store your hair extensions properly: For our clip-in extension lovers, store them in a cool, dry place when you're not wearing them. Use a hair extension hanger or storage bag to keep them tangle-free and in good condition. Avoid storing your hair extensions in direct sunlight or a humid environment.

Proper care and maintenance of your hair extensions are essential during the summer months. By following these tips, you can keep your hair extensions looking their best and confidently enjoy the season.

Remember to protect your hair extensions from the sun, keep them clean, use a deep conditioning treatment, be gentle when brushing or styling them, and store them properly when not in use.

And when choosing hair products with SPF, avoid ingredients like Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) and Octocrylene, which can cause damage to hair extensions.

With these simple steps, you can ensure that your hair extensions look beautiful and healthy all summer!
